Viral RNA synthesis in mononegaviruses takes place in a cytoplasmic membraneless organelle called the inclusion bodies (IBs). The IB of mumps virus is a liquid organelle formed by liquid-liquid phase separation, in which the viral nucleocapsid, phospho (P) protein and polymerase protein form a cage-like reticular structure. Furthermore, RNAs containing G-quadruplex motif sequences were found to play an important role in the formation of IBs.
